Reframing
L5 Micro-InterventionsSame facts, new meaning
What
Reframing changes the meaning assigned to an event after the fact — either by changing the context ('where would this same trait be an asset?') or the content ('what else could this mean?'). The facts stay untouched; the interpretation, and with it the emotional response, changes.
What for
Find a more empowering interpretation.
How it's used
The everyday workhorse of meaning work. The coach listens for the client's frame ('this rejection proves I'm not good enough'), then offers or elicits alternative meanings ('or it proves you're finally playing in a league where rejection is possible'). The best reframes are discovered by the client through questions rather than delivered as slogans, and they must be plausible within the client's world — a reframe the client can't believe is just decoration.
Content
Context reframe: same behaviour, different setting where it is valuable Content reframe: same event, different meaning Elicit rather than lecture: the client's own reframe sticks best Plausibility rule: the new meaning must be believable inside the client's model of the world
