What
The third of the Three Keys to working with the 7 Master Steps (alongside Rapport and Sensory Acuity): the coach's genuine care for the client and authentic presence in the room. It is not a technique but the relational ground that makes techniques work.
What for
Without authenticity techniques become manipulation; without caring, deep interventions lose power.
How it's used
The coach checks their own state and intention before and during the session: am I present, do I actually care about this person's outcome? Clients sense the difference immediately. Without authenticity, tools like pattern interrupts or provocative humour read as manipulation; with real caring, even a hard confrontation deepens trust. In practice this shows up as full attention, honest feedback, and the willingness to be moved by the client.
