The pattern between people, not the person, is the problem

What

The systemic perspective (Bateson, Madanes, family-systems therapy) that grounds all relational coaching in the TR system: a symptom is not an individual defect but a move within a repeating interactional pattern. What looks like one person's problem is often the system's best current solution.

What for

Grounds relational and systemic coaching.

How it's used

In couples and family constellations the coach stops asking 'what is wrong with this person?' and starts asking 'what loop are these people caught in, and what does the symptom accomplish for the system?' A child's outburst may regulate the parents' conflict; a partner's withdrawal may protect the relationship from escalation. Interventions then target the loop — changing one person's step in the dance — rather than pathologising an individual.

Content
