Meaning Chain

L2.1 Explanatory Models
Fragen zu dieser Intervention

The causal sequence from trigger to result

What

The Meaning Chain describes the sequence by which experience becomes result: stimulus → internal processing (physiology, focus, language) → meaning → emotion → behaviour → result. It makes visible that between an event and a person's reaction lies a chain of steps, each of which can be changed.

What for

Shows every link where an intervention can change the whole sequence.

How it's used

The coach uses the chain as a working model to choose the point of intervention. If a client collapses every time their partner criticises them, the coach can intervene at physiology (change the body's response), at focus (what the client attends to in the moment), at language (what they say to themselves), at belief, or directly at meaning ('what else could this mean?'). One changed link changes the whole sequence — which is why very different tools can solve the same problem.
