How it's used
Relationships are read as strategic systems. Two working principles: (1) always attribute good intentions — the moment a partner or coach assumes bad intent the relationship heads toward its end, so the coach stops and ‘erases’ any bad-intent attribution and builds the habit of assuming the best; (2) symptoms are collaborative and usually trauma-rooted — an infidelity, for example, is never one person acting alone and typically follows a major prior trauma (a death, a serious illness, a big loss). Paradoxical interventions — having the couple do the deliberate opposite of the stuck pattern — surface the real system dynamic behind the presenting problem.
