Questions That Access New Resources
L5 Micro-InterventionsQuestions that point at strengths instead of wounds
What
A family of questions within the Powerful Questions macro tool that deliberately bypasses problem- focus and directs the client's attention to existing strengths, past successes and available solutions: 'When did you handle something like this well? What would you do if you knew you couldn't fail? What's already working?'
What for
Redirect attention to resources.
How it's used
Used whenever a client is looped in problem-description: instead of analysing the problem further, the coach asks a question the brain can only answer by accessing a resource. The state shift is immediate and observable — posture, voice and tempo change as the client re-contacts their own capability. The skill lies in timing: the resource question lands after the client feels understood, not before.
Content
Redirect attention from problem to resource by question design Classic forms: exceptions ('when was it different?'), capability ('how did you do that?'), hypotheticals ('if you couldn't fail?') The brain answers the question it is asked — so ask resource questions Timing: validate first, then redirect
