Questions That Induce Doubt
L5 Micro-InterventionsSoftening certainty without confrontation
What
Questions that introduce doubt into the certainty of a limiting belief. A belief only functions while the person feels certain about it; these questions quietly loosen that certainty from inside: 'How do you know that's true? Has there ever been an exception? Who taught you that — and were they right about everything?'
What for
Open space for a new perspective without confrontation.
How it's used
Used to destabilise a limiting pattern before replacing it. Instead of attacking the belief head-on (which produces defence), the coach asks questions the client can only answer by examining the belief's foundations. Each honest answer removes a stone. Once the client says some version of 'well, maybe not always…', the certainty is broken and a new belief can be offered into the open space.
Content
Beliefs run on felt certainty — doubt is the solvent Forms: evidence ('how do you know?'), exceptions ('ever been different?'), origin ('who taught you this?') Non-confrontational: the client dismantles the belief through their own answers Sequence: induce doubt first, then offer the empowering alternative
