Transformational Vocabulary
L5 Micro-InterventionsThe words you use decide what you feel
What
Transformational Vocabulary is the deliberate choice of emotional labels: the words used to name an experience shape its felt intensity. Habitual language ('I'm furious', 'this is a disaster') locks in high- intensity states; changed labels change the neurochemical response to the same event.
What for
Change the felt experience through labels.
How it's used
The client identifies their three habitual words for negative states and deliberately softens them ('furious' → 'a little irritated'), and their words for positive states and deliberately amplifies them ('good' → 'phenomenal'). The comic exaggeration is part of the mechanism — saying 'I'm a bit tinkled' about something that used to be rage interrupts the pattern and reduces intensity at once. Practised daily until the new labels are automatic.
