Agreement Frame
L5 Micro-InterventionsValidate first, redirect second
What
The Agreement Frame begins every redirection inside the client's own frame: the coach first genuinely agrees with something true in the client's position ('I agree this matters enormously…'), and only then introduces the new perspective ('…and that's exactly why it's worth looking at it this way'). Resistance drops because there is nothing to push against.
What for
Reduce resistance by validating first.
How it's used
Used constantly, especially with clients in strong opposition or defence. The formula replaces 'but' with 'and': 'I appreciate that, AND…' — because 'but' erases the validation that just happened. The agreement must be real; token agreement is detected instantly. Mastery of this frame is what makes confrontational moments in coaching feel like collaboration instead of combat.
Content
Step 1: find and voice genuine agreement with part of the client's position Step 2: bridge with 'and' (never 'but') into the redirection Removes the surface the resistance needs to push against The agreement must be authentic to work
