Temporal Shifts
L5 Micro-InterventionsMoving the point of view along the timeline
What
Temporal Shifts reframe by moving the client's perspective in time: viewing today's crisis from ten years later, re-visiting a past event as the resourceful adult of today, or feeling a future consequence now. Pain and meaning are perspective-dependent — time shifts change the perspective, and with it the feeling.
What for
Reduce current pain or amplify future pull.
How it's used
Practical forms: shrinking present pain ('will this matter in five years?'), amplifying motivation by pulling the future close ('stand in the day it's done — describe it'), and re-coding the past ('look at that scene with everything you know now'). The shift is done experientially — the client steps into the time position, in language and often physically in the room — not as an intellectual exercise.
Content
Future → present: view today's problem from years ahead to shrink it Present → future: step into the achieved outcome to amplify pull Present → past: revisit old scenes with today's resources Executed experientially (spatially, sensorially), not as abstract discussion
