Rules Realignment (Phase I → II)
L5 Micro-InterventionsMaking the rules winnable
What
A two-phase process for the client's rules — the personal 'musts' that decide when needs count as met. Phase I surfaces the rules ('what has to happen for you to feel loved / successful?'); Phase II replaces impossible rules with rules that are within the client's control and easy to satisfy.
What for
Remove the conditions that make needs unmeetable.
How it's used
Most chronic frustration turns out to be a rules problem: the client's rule for feeling successful requires other people's applause, perfection, or conditions that occur twice a year. The coach elicits the current rule verbatim, holds it up ('notice: by this rule, almost nobody could ever win'), then guides the client to author a new rule — one they control, that many moments can satisfy. Same life, new rules, different daily experience.
Content
Phase I: elicit the current rules — 'what has to happen for you to feel X?' Diagnosis: impossible rules = needs that structurally cannot be met Phase II: write new rules that are self-controlled and easy to trigger Effect: the same life now regularly satisfies the need
