7 Elements of a Story
L5 Micro-InterventionsThe architecture of the client's life story
What
A narrative framework identifying the seven structural elements of the story a person tells about their life — protagonist, antagonist/conflict, turning points, theme, supporting cast, stakes and trajectory. People don't live their biography; they live the story they tell about it, and the story has an architecture that can be rewritten.
What for
Rewrite the story to change identity.
How it's used
The coach elicits the client's life story and maps it onto the elements: What role does the client give themselves — hero or victim? Who or what plays the antagonist? What is the theme — survival, proving, becoming? Then the story is deliberately re-authored at the structural level: same events, new role, new theme, new trajectory. Because identity lives in narrative, restructuring the story restructures the self-concept.
Content
Seven structural elements: protagonist, conflict, turning points, theme, cast, stakes, trajectory Diagnosis: which role and theme has the client written for themselves? Re-authoring: same facts, new structure — from victim's tale to hero's journey Narrative change is identity change
