Power of Effective Blaming

L5 Micro-Interventions
Fragen zu dieser Intervention

If you're going to blame, blame completely

What

A provocative reframe of responsibility: if the client insists on blaming someone for what went wrong, the coach has them blame that person for the good outcomes too — 'if your father made you fearful, then his pressure also made you the achiever you are.' Blame, applied honestly in both directions, transforms into ownership and even gratitude.

What for

Shift from external facts to chosen interpretations.

How it's used

Used with clients stuck in resentment narratives that ordinary responsibility-talk cannot reach. The coach joins the blame frame instead of fighting it, then extends it symmetrically until it breaks open: the same history that hurt the client also equipped them. The emotional shift is characteristic — from grievance to a more complex, freer relationship with the past. Requires rapport and timing; done coldly it trivialises real pain.

Content

Join the blame frame rather than arguing against it Extend it symmetrically: blame the person for the gifts as well as the wounds The frame breaks open into ownership and often gratitude Requires rapport, timing and respect for real injuries
